Jeff Brannon, Assistant Director of Coaching/U-12 Freedom

Jeff Brannon

Jeff has been a coach with Homewood Soccer Club since 2006. In his tenure at Homewood Jeff has worked with the Patriot, Recreational, and Competitive programs.

Playing Experience: Jeff grew up playing soccer at various youth clubs in the Birmingham and Trussville areas. He played high school soccer for John Carroll Catholic.  After living in the Republic of Panama and visiting Venezuela, Jeff returned home and graduated from the University of Alabama. During his travels and studies Jeff played in various adult and local leagues. One of the highlights for Jeff was getting to see authentic “street soccer” played while he was traveling. “Seeing the joy and passion these kids had for the game is something I will never forget.”

Rob Dominguez, Assistant Director of Coaching

Rob Dominguez

Rob Dominguez has been a coach with Homewood Soccer Club since 2007. In his time at Homewood, he has coached at the competitive level across ages from U11 to U19. In his first season with the U18s, the team competed in the State Finals. Rob says, “I really like working with the older kids: the passion they have for the game is incredible.”

As a player, Rob was part of the Homewood High School state championship program for five years. He competed in the Region III Premier League and holds titles at the Division I and Division II levels.

Rob holds multiple licenses from the USSF and NSCAA – and is in process for his UEFA B license to be completed in Belfast, Northern Ireland over the next two years.

Greg Vinson, Goalkeeping Coach

Greg Vincent

Homewood Soccer Club is excited to have Greg Vinson in charge of the free, open-to-all weekly goalkeeping clinic at Homewood Soccer Club on Mondays from 6-7pm.

One of Birmingham-Southern College’s most honored athletes, he is in his 14th season as the program’s first full-time assistant coach. As a three-year team captain and starter at goalkeeper for the Panthers, Vinson was twice selected All-American, including a first-team selection in 1995. In 1995, Vinson set three individual records in a season including most saves (168), most shutouts (13), and lowest goals against average (1.04). Vinson helped lead Birmingham-Southern to a 21-3-1 record in 1995, which included a No. 2 ranking in the national polls and a trip to the national semifinals in the college’s first-ever national tournament appearance. He was one of two BSC soccer players chosen to participate in the NSCAA’s All-Star Game in Florida in 1995. During his four-year career, Vinson set records for most saves (420) and most career shutouts (27).


Crystal Royall

Crystal Royall

Crystal Royall, assistant coach of the UAB women’s soccer program and a former assistant coach at Birmingham-Southern and standout goalkeeper at Samford, generously lends her knowledge and expertise to the Homewood Soccer Club’s roster of coaches.

Royall got her start in coaching by serving as a volunteer assistant coach for head coach Todd Yelton at Samford in 2005, then went on to spend the next three seasons as an assistant coach at Birmingham-Southern. Over the past two years alone, the BSC goalkeepers have held opponents to less than one goal per game under Royall’s guidance. Prior to beginning her coaching career, Royall was a stellar goalkeeper at Samford. A three-time All-OVC selection, she was also honored as the OVC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year in both 2004 and 2005. Royall was also named to the first-team All-Southeast Region by SoccerBuzz in 2004 and 2005. Additionally, she earned first-team Scholar All-South region and third-team Scholar All-America honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) in 2004.


Katie Henricks/U-11 Lady Freedom, U-15 Lady Freedom

Katie Hendricks

Former UAB Women’s soccer captain Katie Henricks has returned to her alma mater as a volunteer assistant coach for the upcoming season. Henricks was a four-year letter winner for the Green and Gold from 2004-07. “During her time here, Katie developed into one of the hardest working, most successful student-athletes we’ve ever had in our program,” UAB head coach Paul Harbin said. “She understands the privilege of playing college soccer, exemplifies our high expectations, and will be a tremendous asset to our staff. We’re extremely excited to have her back at UAB.”

Henricks earned all-conference honors as a senior after helping the Blazers post nine shutouts, tying the most in program history. The Leeds, Ala., native served as team captain during the 2007 campaign and helped UAB to two NCAA tournament appearances during her tenure.


Greg Bassett/U-14 Freedom
Coaching Experience: Greg joins Homewood soccer after 24 years of coaching with the American Soccer Club and BUSA. He also coached Pelham High School girls Varsity for several years.

Mason Cook/U-15 Freedom
Mason has been a coach with Homewood Soccer Club since Fall 2008

Playing History: Mason developed as a player playing Club Soccer in Dallas with Texas Spurs, Texas Longhorns, Hawks SC, and FC Dallas. In those clubs he was coached by ex professionals, some of which played at the World Cup level. He played JV soccer for Marcus High School in Flower Mound Texas, where he was coached by a semi pro and ex-Welsh national team player. Mason moved to Birmingham in 2004. He played club soccer for Mountain Brook SC andat  Spain Park High School.

Coaching Experience: Mason worked camps with MBSC under Rob Walker and Andrew Brower. He was an assistant coach for a U12 and U13 team for two years at MBSC/BUSA. At Homewood Soccer Club he coached  U-13 Freedom in 2008-2009 and U-14 Freedom in 2009-2010.

Mindy McBride/U-12 Lady Freedom, U-12 Lady Eagles
Playing History: Mindy grew up playing soccer in the Birmingham area. She was a member of the first girls soccer team at Vestavia Hills High School and team captain her senior year. Mindy played adult club soccer while attending The University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. While in graduate school at the University of Montevallo she trained with the women’s team for two seasons.

Coaching Experience: Homewood U-11 Lady Freedom, 2003-2004, and Homewood High School Girls Varsity Head Coach, 1996-2004

Coaching Licenses: USSF C license in 1999

McBride has a degree in Psychology and a Masters in Education. She taught AP Psychology at Homewood High School from 1996-2004.
