Dear Homewood Soccer Club,
I want to take a moment to introduce myself as the new Director of Homewood Soccer Club, to share my journey to this opportunity and to assure you of the bright future of our club.
I began my coaching career with Mountain Brook Soccer Club in 2005, which eventually merged with the Jets to create BUSA. At BUSA, I learned how to manage myself around kids, get them excited about the sport I love and teach them a thing or two about becoming a better soccer player.
In 2008, I received an exciting phone call from Homewood Soccer Club to join the program as a u-13 Boys Head Coach. I kept this team throughout the rest of their career, which included an undefeated season and a state championship. It’s hard to believe this group will be graduating high school this May.
Since 2008, along with the boy’s team I mentioned, I have helped with all aspects of the club. My roles at the club have included Director of Coaching, Junior Boys Director, and head coach of Boys and Girls recreational and competitive teams. I also helped start the Skills and Fitness program, which continues to grow every season. As a coach, the most rewarding aspect of the job has never been winning games. Instead, I choose to focus on growing individuals, teaching them life lessons and showing them the beauty of the game.
I want to remind all of our members of Homewood Soccer Club’s goals, which are mine as well. We will provide every child, at every level, the opportunity to grow as a player and as a person. All areas of the club will get the same attention, regardless of playing level, with the expectation that any child who experiences “The Homewood Way” will develop to their fullest potential.
Above all, we will give each team the opportunity to excel. I believe that every team has an appropriate placement, coach and practice plan and it is my job to give each team the attention they deserve to establish these goals and ensure they are met.
I look forward to getting to know each of you and want you all to know that my door is always open. If you have any questions about what we do and why we do it, I encourage you to contact me or any member of our staff.
Here’s to many more exciting years on the soccer pitch in Homewood, Alabama.
