GREG VINSON, Goalkeeping Coach

Homewood Soccer Club is excited to have Greg Vinson in charge of the free, open-to-all weekly goalkeeping clinic at Homewood Soccer Club. Keepers should meet at field #2 by the bleachers at 6 p.m. for instruction. Be sure to bring gloves and a soccer ball.

Currently Assistant Men’s Soccer Coach at Birmingham-Southern College, Greg is one of Birmingham-Southern College’s most honored athletes. He is in his 17th season as the program’s first full-time assistant coach. As a three-year team captain and starter at goalkeeper for the Panthers, Vinson was twice selected All-American, including a first-team selection in 1995. In 1995, Vinson set three individual records in a season including most saves (168), most shutouts (13), and lowest goals against average (1.04).

Vinson helped lead Birmingham-Southern to a 21-3-1 record in 1995, which included a No. 2 ranking in the national polls and a trip to the national semifinals in the college’s first-ever national tournament appearance. He was one of two BSC soccer players chosen to participate in the NSCAA’s All-Star Game in Florida in 1995. During his four-year career, Vinson set records for most saves (420) and most career shutouts (27).
